Performing Opera

PERFORMING OPERA is a seven-day intensive workshop programme that provides young singers with the tools and experience they need to begin their professional practice confidently. It includes a live radio performance and official presentations at the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam.

• Training, rehearsing, performing

• Focus on acting

• Performances for a live audience

For vocal students B-III, B-IV, Master’s & recently graduated singers.

12 – 18 August 2019. Grachtenfestival, Amsterdam.

Opera, operetta, classical musical, and music theatre, from all periods and regions.

Before workshop: Following the applicant selection process, the participants will pick, along with the teachers, the scenes they would like to work on. Participants will be expected to learn the chosen repertoire and read the provided literature through self-study in preparation for the workshop.

During workshop: The first day consists of working with the musical coach and the duo or ensemble partners. The subsequent six-day intensive begins with physical training, after which the participants will work with the different coaches. After the first three teaching days we will start to rehearse for the performances.

A unique feature of PERFORMING OPERA is its cooperation with the GRACHTENFESTIVAL, where singers can test their newly acquired performance skills on a live audience. The three performance opportunities (live radio broadcast, intimate performance, and final presentation) will be presented within the festival.
